Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where can I see your products?

You can request a sample to be mailed to you, from our suppliers.

Do you produce raw Cedar?

No, all our products are pre-finished with a clear coating.

Do I need to paint, stain or varnish after installation?

No, all our products are pre-finished. Once they are installed, there is nothing more to do.

What maintenance is required?

There is generally no need to re-sand or re-coat our products. For exterior ceilings, we recommend brushing with a soft-bristled broom approximately every six months, to remove any dust build-up.

How is this product installed?

The product is installed using construction adhesive and nails. The nailing is done through the tongue or groove of the product, and when the next board is put in place, it covers the nail. This method is known as secret-nailing or hidden-nailing.

Installation guidelines

Do I need a carpenter to install this product?

Our products are suitable for installation by carpenters and DIY enthusiasts. If you are confident with a saw and nail gun you can do it yourself.

What tools will I need to install this product?

As well as the basic measuring tape and pencil, you will need the following items.

ADHESIVE: Use a construction-grade adhesive such as Fulaprene 303 or Uniprene, available at most hardware stores.

NAILS: Use a brad gun (also known as a bradder or nail gun) with 25 mm nails. These guns can be purchased or hired. Always use stainless steel nails for exterior ceilings.

SAW: You will need a circular saw, compound mitre saw or hand saw to cut the lengths at the end of each row.

A sturdy work platform is needed for insallation of ceilings.

Installation guidelines

Can I use this product on exterior walls?

No, the coating is not recommended for areas exposed to direct sunlight or weather. It can be used on exterior areas that are well sheltered, such as ceilings.

Can I glue this product over existing cladding?

The lining boards must be nailed firmly into joists or studs. For best results, existing cladding should be removed to ensure boards are fastened correctly and will not be subject to unusual movement.

Can I use the lining boards as flooring?

No, the coating is not designed for abrasive situations.

Is this product a timber veneer?

No, our products are 100% solid timber. There is no veneer or laminating process used in their construction.

Can I stain the lining boards a different colour?

In order to stain the timber, you would need to sand the coating off completely. Although possible, we do not recommend it.

Can I get the Cedar in a more even colour?

No, Western Red Cedar has a particularly wide colour variation, and that is a feature of this natural product. We recommend random installation to achieve a natural, textured look.

Is the wood grown in Australia?

No, our wood is sourced from sustainably managed forests worldwide, to offer the best choice of timber species for the job at hand. For example, our Cedar is native to Canada, where the deforestation rate has been zero for over 20 years. It is known for its natural resistance to rot, decay and insects, as well as its beauty and durability.
